OUR HISTORY

Haynie Chapel Methodist Church was founded in 1839, during the days of the Republic of Texas, making it one of the oldest Methodist congregations in the region. The church was established by Rev. John Haynie (1786–1860), a circuit-riding preacher whose ministry helped spread Methodism across early Texas settlements.

Like many early frontier churches, it served not only as a place of worship but also as a gathering place for community life, faith, and fellowship during a challenging and formative time in Texas history.

As the congregation grew and the community developed, a new building was needed. The current church building, the third in Haynie Chapel’s history, was constructed in 1907, continuing the legacy of worship that began decades earlier.
